This morning, Ally Theatre Company’s production of Rasheeda Speaking became the first production cancelled in our area due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Rasheeda Speaking has been performing at Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier.
Ty Hallmark, Founding and Artistic Director for Ally Theatre, wrote: “The decision was made first and foremost in service to our community. Joe’s is a community center and shared space where a lot of people of all ages come and go for various reasons and we feel it would be irresponsible to put our audiences and neighbors – not to mention our cast and show crew, some of whom are in a high risk group – at risk by continuing performances.”
The company is planning to continue its originally licensed 13 performances in the Fall.
Ticket holders will be contacted, and refunds or exchanges made.
A closure such as this can be devastating to any theatre company, especially to a small company. Ally Theatre is asking theatregoers to make a contribution of $25 or more to help see them through this crisis, and promises to hold a ticket for a future show for all contributing.
As this article was being prepared, Adventure Theatre MTC announced cancellation of its March 19 fundraiser.
